During FY26, the company undertook capacity upgrades at its Salem facility, including caster modernisation (January 2026) and commissioning of a ladle furnace and vacuum degasser (February 2026), increasing capacity from 1.0 MTPA to 1.15 MTPA effective March 2026.
Since end-September 2025, Blast Furnace–3 at Vijayanagar has been under shutdown for capacity upgradation, impacting crude steel production and capacity utilisation during FY26.
In FY26, capacity utilisation for Indian operations stood at approximately ~92% (excluding BF-3) and ~87% (including BF-3), indicating strong operational efficiency despite ongoing upgrades.
During FY26, JSW Steel restructured its operations by transferring the steel business of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL) to JSW Sambalpur Steel Limited (JSSL) as part of a joint venture formation with JFE Steel, effective March 27, 2026.
In Q4 FY26, JSW Steel reported combined crude steel production of 7.49 million tonnes, maintaining stable production levels despite the impact of capacity upgradation activities.
In FY25, JSW Steel continued to expand its operational scale, with consolidated production rising from 27.79 million tonnes in FY25 to 30.14 million tonnes in FY26, supported by capacity ramp-up and efficiency improvements.

On October 28, 2025, JSW Steel Ltd. announced it is enhancing its raw-material security by increasing its stake in Australia’s Illawarra coking-coal asset from 20% to 30% and pursuing the acquisition of the Minas de Revuboe project in Mozambique. Domestically it plans to bring three new iron-ore mines in Karnataka online by Q1 FY27 (~4 million t), and in Goa three mines with ~3.7 million t annual capacity beginning Q3 FY26 and H2 FY27, respectively.

In February 2024, JSW Steel and JSW Group announced a Rs. 65,000 (US$ 7.82 billion) crore investment in an integrated manufacturing complex in Odisha. The project will include steel manufacturing, a power plant, a cement unit, and jetties, with the potential to create 30,000 jobs. Additionally, JSW Group signed an agreement with the Odisha government for a Rs. 40,000 crore (US$ 4.81 billion) electric vehicle and EV battery manufacturing project, expected to generate over 11,000 jobs.
