The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has facilitated the first export of 24 metric tonnes (MT) of frozen French fries from Kashipur in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar district to Iraq, marking a significant milestone in promoting value-added agricultural exports from the state. Exported by Virun Global Trade Pvt. Ltd., the consignment strengthens India's processed food export basket while opening new international market opportunities for Uttarakhand-based food processors. APEDA has supported the exporter through participation in leading international trade exhibitions, including SIAL, Gulfood, IndusFood and World Food India, helping expand global market access and strengthen buyer engagement. The exporter expressed confidence that the quality of the product would generate repeat orders and foster long-term business relationships in overseas markets.
India continues to strengthen its position as a global supplier of processed agricultural products. During 2025-26, the country's processed vegetable exports reached 7,26,874.70 MT, valued at Rs. 8,238.78 crore (US$ 932.25 million), while value-added potato products accounted for 277,108.51 MT of exports worth Rs. 2,540.67 crore (US$ 287.49 million). Processed fruits and vegetables together contributed nearly 10% of APEDA's scheduled exports during the year. APEDA is also working with the Government of Uttarakhand to formulate and implement the State Agri Export Policy, including transport assistance measures to improve export competitiveness from landlocked regions. The initiative is expected to strengthen export infrastructure, promote value addition, enhance farmers' incomes through improved market access and reinforce India's position in the global processed food market.
