Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s UAE Visit to Advance Strategic Defence Partnership

  • May 11, 2026

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is expected to strengthen the India-UAE Strategic Defence Partnership further and deepen cooperation across security, defence and strategic sectors. The visit follows the signing of a Letter of Intent on Strategic Defence Partnership during the January 2026 visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India. The proposed framework aims to expand bilateral cooperation in areas such as defence industrial collaboration, advanced defence technologies, counter-terrorism, cyber security, training and interoperability. The visit reflects the growing strategic alignment between India and the UAE amid evolving geopolitical developments and a growing focus on regional security and supply-chain resilience.

India and the UAE have significantly expanded bilateral cooperation in recent years across trade, energy, infrastructure, technology and defence under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework. Both countries are targeting bilateral trade of Rs. 18.90 lakh crore (US$ 200 billion) by 2032, supported by initiatives such as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), investments in logistics and infrastructure, and growing collaboration in emerging sectors including artificial intelligence (AI), space technology and advanced manufacturing. The two countries have also strengthened cooperation in energy security, digital infrastructure and connectivity projects, while increasing engagement in maritime security and regional stability in West Asia. The Prime Minister’s visit is expected to build on recent high-level engagements and further reinforce India-UAE ties as a key pillar of India’s strategic and economic engagement in the Gulf region.
